A triple threat who lights up a room when behind the decks, in the studio, and on stage, TORIBIO is a lifelong student of rhythm. Analyzing melodies and chords with a musician's ear, the Dominican-American artist blends different genres and moods in all his creative pursuits-DJing, producing, singing, playing instruments, and even his skills on the mic.

Thanks to a childhood spent playing in church and jazz drumming, the Florida-born, New York-based act has a natural sense of harmony. He takes on the role of musical cartographer in live house fusion band, Conclave, whose debut album was named one of Resident Advisor's best in 2021 and praised by both Rolling Stone and the New Yorker. Acting as the ensemble's bandleader, vocalist, and key instrumentalist, TORIBIO connects jazz, soul, and house from various cultures with style and grace.

His speciality in sonic connections are especially tangible in his DJing. Gliding from pan-Latin club to raw electro to jazz to old-school funk, his sets are a masterclass in building energy and tension. Whether playing Boiler Room or clubs in Mexico City and Tokyo, he knows how to work a crowd with selections and transitions that are as precise as they are powerful. As a producer, his edits and originals are DJ weapons, rinsed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Rich Medina, and Theo Parrish. His original tracks have been remixed by the likes of Louie Vega, Joe Claussell, and DJ Spinna.

Known for fostering community through movement, his Brooklyn block parties (Public Service NYC) embody the spirit of New York's dance culture while his newly formed imprint B.D.A. is quickly becoming known for bringing these vibes to vinyl. A TORIBIO show is a full-body experience as he always says, "bring dat ass, and your feet will follow.

Carl Craig is a multi-disciplined visionary whose eclectic tastes and influences all converge into his “main discipline,” Carl Craig. The Detroit pioneer’s lifelong pursuit of independence and self-gratification is the catalyst behind three decades of innovation and achievement within the realm of electronic music.

As the mastermind behind Planet E Communications, Carl conceived and nurtured a platform that preserves his independence while also providing a liberating space for a range of international artists over the last 30 years. Carl’s open-minded approach has led to the release of records that traverse hip-hop, jazz, funk, and more esoteric electronic compositions, purposely avoiding commercial-sounding music.

As a producer and performer, Carl’s history is well documented. Under a variety of aliases—69, Paperclip People, C2, and many more—he has produced six LPs, the most recent being Versus, with his back catalog including credits on over 600 remixes for a diverse cross-section of electronic music artists from Depeche Mode and Tori Amos to his friends Kenny Larkin and Kevin Saunderson, plus many many more. In 2008, Carl’s tireless remix work was recognized at the Grammys, where he was nominated for his rework of Junior Boys “Like A Child.”

Forever an ambassador for his hometown, Carl pays homage to Motor City with his Detroit Love compilations and events while also spearheading the city’s electronic music festival way back at the turn of the millennium, and also runs his own artist agency, Detroit Premiere Artists.

Carl’s creative dedication to black excellence and the championing of its creative leaders has led to a series of educational projects in recent years. His ‘All Black Vinyl’ Instagram series, in which he showcases a record from a black artist each day of February, evolved into the 2022 ‘All Black Digital’ partnership with Beatport and Quincy Jones’s Qwest TV, featuring moving conversations with Black artists and a series of live streams with rising African talent from South

Africa’s Constitution Hill. The Beatport partnership continued in 2023 with a series of editorial content showcasing rising Black artists from Detroit and returns to Carl’s own Instagram profile in 2024. Also this year, Carl delivered a special Black History Month DJ Mix to Apple Music alongside a Selects playlist featuring all Black artists and spoke on the Black experience’s impact on his wide-reaching artistry at NYU and Michigan State University. In addition, he participated in multiple panels at ADE: Dilla 50, which celebrated the mega-influence the legendary Detroit hip-hop producer J Dilla had across all genres of music, as well as From Detroit to Durban: The Learnings of 30 Years of Dance Music, which brought together industry pioneers and rising stars to explore the legacy of two of the most influential genres in global dance music: Techno from Detroit and Amapiano from South Africa.

More recently, he has taken his outward explorations a step further by working with the prestigious art establishment DIA:Beacon. His immersive installation Party/After-Party is the result of five years of development and occupied the huge, warehouse-esque 40,000 square-foot basement at the gallery during its 15-month showing. The piece combines a soundscape and programmed lighting effects to engage participants in Carl’s interpretation of his experiences on the road while touring, from the club to the after-party. After showing at the DIA:Beacon, and now acquired as part of the DIA’s permanent collection, Party/After-Party was brought to Los Angeles’ esteemed home for contemporary art MOCA. The installation was experienced by thousands of patrons over four months at the iconic downtown Los Angeles repurposed warehouse location. Carl was also recognized as a guest of honor at the MOCA Gala and hosted a series of three Party/After-Party sessions in partnership with Insomniac and Secret Project featuring performances from Carl alongside Moodymann, DJ Minx, King Britt, DJ Holographic, Kyle Hall, Rimarkable, and Erno. Party/After-Party will next be brought overseas to multiple to-be-announced locations in the years to come.

2022 saw Carl’s prominence in high art and culture furthered through the presentation of the Carl Craig Synthesizer Ensemble at Carnegie Hall’s AFROFUTURISM Festival as well as a special set at the 59th Venice Biennale in the cavernous naval complex Tese 98, in celebration of artist Stan Douglas’ participation in the Canada Pavilion.

In 2024, Carl was the focus and star of the documentary about his life, Desire: The Carl Craig Story, which premiered at the famous Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Directed by Jean-Cosme Delaloye (Harley), the film follows Carl’s career from middle-class roots to global stardom in the worlds of music and art, with Detroit’s decline and recovery as a backdrop. The film features interviews with Carl’s family and seminal figures in music, including Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier, Moritz von Oswald, and James Lavelle.

His contribution to global electronic music culture has been vast. Despite widespread critical acclaim and success, he continues to inject his innovative energy into everything he does, establishing a legacy that will stand long after the wheels of his car finally fall off…

Shaun J. Wright @ LOSO

DJ Sets: 9pm - 2am
2727 W. Broad St. Richmond, VA 23220

Born and raised in west suburban Chicagoland, Shaun J. Wright spent most of their teen years immersed in the sounds of house music. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, house music was a powerful force, permeating the mainstream airwaves of Chicago’s most prominent radio stations. With Wright being raised in the epicenter of house culture during this era, their love for dance music began to expand throughout their high school years as they partook in the underground dance scene now globally known as Juke.

While in undergrad at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Wright developed their skills as a dancer in the vogue ballroom scene and professional dance companies. After acquiring an MA Fashion Curation from the London College of Fashion, Wright enjoyed an active career in fashion in New York City. That is where they met Andrew Butler, founder of Hercules and Love Affair, in 2008, and began a whirlwind collaboration with the ensemble as a vocalist. They spent nearly three years touring with the outfit, performing in major venues & festivals throughout North & South America and Europe. They’re also featured prominently on the ensemble’s lauded sophomore album, “Blue Songs’.

Returning to Chicago in 2012 to forge their solo career, Wright began to collaborate with respected DJ and producer Alinka. Promptly after beginning their party Twirl in the spring of 2013, Wright & Alinka released their first EP, Twirl Vol. 1, on the celebrated Classic Music Company led by luminaries Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter. They continued to expand upon the brand in late 2014 with their Twirl Records debut release “Journey Into The Deep” EP which included remixes from Kim Ann Foxman and Stereogamous. The label’s output has received much critical acclaim and has been supported by DJ Mag, XLR8R, Mixmag, BBC Radio 1’s Heidi and Annie Mac, and a plethora of notable DJ’s.

JUNIOR SANCHEZ @ LOSO
Saturday, March 8
Doors: 8pm
DJ Sets: 9pm - 2am
2727 W Broad St

As one of the world’s most respected and innovative DJs, Junior Sanchez has remained at the forefront of house music since the ‘90s. But throughout his three-decade-long career, Sanchez has continued to challenge himself—becoming a versatile producer, a hands-on label executive, and an inspiring entrepreneur along the way. Above all, Sanchez’s enthusiasm for his craft, and his passion to share it with others, is present in all of his endeavors.

Although Sanchez’s story begins in the most ordinary of places—suburban New Jersey—his rise to fame was anything but. The youngest of six, Sanchez was raised on his family’s diverse record collection. While his Brazilian mother enjoyed a steady dose of Latin music, his siblings each had their own favorites: from ELO and Fleetwood Mac to Slick Rick and The Smiths. Sanchez embraced it all. But when he discovered house music—a relatively young genre that sprung from the ashes of disco—it resonated with him on a new level.

Sanchez developed his talents on a makeshift rig at home and immersed himself in New York City’s vibrant club scene. By his early teens, he was DJing regularly at Peter Gatien’s Club USA and Limelight. Balancing high school with residencies, Sanchez signed his first record deal at 15. A few years later, he established Cube Recordings, where he released records from the likes of Rhythm Masters, Stuart Price, and Sébastien Léger. There, he also co-produced Felix da Housecat’s landmark electroclash album, Kittenz and Thee Glitz.

The prodigious DJ not only won the respect of house music’s elders but also of a new generation of stars, including Armand van Helden, who took Sanchez under his wing. Together, they founded Da Mongaloids—a global collective of DJs that featured such high-profile names as Todd Terry; Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christ; Roger Sanchez; Laidback Luke; DJ Sneak; and Basement Jaxx’s Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe. Aiming to create “The Wu-Tang Clan of House Music,” Sanchez was the youngest of the group—and the most enthusiastic. “I recruited all of these people,” he recalls. “We started re-mixing each other and appearing on each other’s records. There was a lot of unity.”

Juana has enticed crowds all over the world at venues such as Berghain, WAS, De School, Basement, Nowadays, and numerous underground warehouses. Over the past several years, Juana has played alongside DJs such as, DVS1, Jamaica Suk, Perc, Headless Horseman, 999999999, Efdemin, and DJ Stingray. Juana joined the Discwoman roster in 2017 and is a founding member of the DC QT BIPOC collective NOXEEMA JACKSON since 2021.

Juana originally hails from the city of Chicago. She started out like most, as a random kid on the dance floor every week at places like The Generator and Boom Boom Room, and has been DJing house, techno, and disco parties since roughly 2001. Juana moved to DC in 2003 and began hosting weekly live internet radio shows on HandzOnRadio (Baltimore) and Cyberjamz (Tampa) and playing parties in the DC deep house scene, upping her skills alongside legendary DJs like Sam “the Man” Burns,” and at clubs including Red and the DC Sanctuary. Juana started obsessively collecting disco and early house records in the late 90s and eventually developed an undying penchant for straight-ahead techno and darker shades of Chicago underground acid and deep house of the 80s and 90s.

Over the past several years, Juana has made her mark in DC as one of only a handful of techno DJs, as a member of the founding squad of the Sequence collective, led by Ron Jackson. Sequence was the first underground party committed to consistently showcasing local and global techno DJs and crafting a dark, dangerous, sometimes hellishly uncomfortable party vibe hitherto unavailable in the DC area.

As a producer, her first release “Discipline Issues” was released as part of a compilation on Katie Rex’s Bound label, and her first independent EP “Floating” landed in 2020. Her most recent EP “Peaks” was released in July 2021, and she also appeared on the TRAX ONLY Soft Touch compilation in spring of 2021 and the Neighborhoods Vol. 1 compilation on World Building in fall of 2021. She is currently working on her first full-length album project for release in 2023.

Holographic is a funky force of joy. She is a leading woman of the next generation of the Detroit dance music underground, and brings that potent energy with her wherever she goes.

The DJ/producer was born-and-raised in Detroit on a rich musical diet of Motown, R&B, Rock, and House. Born Ariel Corley, her artist name was inspired by Star Trek’s Holodeck, a mirror to society, a manifestation of human divineness, and a transporter of different realities into different spaces. She brings intention to everything she does, and when she steps behind the decks you feel her unconditional love as she channels the energy of the crowd and the seasons, curating a soundtrack of house, funk, nu-disco, techno and beyond to suit and elevate the vibe.

Corley has filled many a hallowed space with her resonant sound over the past 13 years. Since cutting her teeth in the certified underground of Detroit’s warehouses, she’s played four Movements, along with enviable bookings at other beloved clubs and festivals around the world, from Tomorrowland to OFFSónar. 2022 was a banner year with many firsts, including a successful Australian tour and Coachella debut. Swedish House Mafia offered her to open seven of their stadium shows, and she toured North America and Europe several times over. She’s a regular DJ at Berlin’s famed Panorama Bar and played their 2023 New Year’s Eve party, clocking in four shows there in 2022.

The love, intimacy and realness she brings to her shows has won her a diverse, devoted fanbase across the globe, and this connection is what ignites and fuels her. “I enjoy being able to interact with my crowd musically and emotionally,” she explains. Her upbeat sound and boundless joy can fill any space, and she feels most at home in intimate spaces akin to Detroit warehouse parties. She celebrates the culture she’s building together with her audience and fellow like-hearted DJs, a continuation of techno’s Detroit origins.

Techno forefather Carl Craig tapped her to curate Detroit Love Vol. 5 in 2021, the compilation album series on his iconic independent label Planet E Communications. The album is a vibey celebration of Detroit-based and Detroit-loving artists, and a sampling of the type of tunesCorley might listen to on the journey before, during and after a show. It got a nod from DJ Magfor 2022 Best Compilation and came with a vibrant, classic house-nodding DJ Holographic original, “Faith in My Cup,” featuring Apropos’ warm vocals. Her first release came in 2020, a playful, funky three-track EP donning her filtered voice, Parallel Shifting.

Corley’s been working on new music and is excited to share it in 2023. She’s been clearing space for unbridled creativity, to find the depth of her voice and sound as a producer. She’s been taking voice lessons and found the instrument she most connects with, an Akai MPC. Like music, she’s found solace in astrology, using it as a tool for healing and to discover all facets of herself. She’s surprised by some of the darker sounds she’s been making, ala early GreenVelvet, and feels it could be from her Scorpio rising. Her sun sign is Sagittarius, the free-spirited adventurer and intellectual, quite fitting for a globe-trotting DJ well-studied in music, community building and anthropology. The time to enter the world of DJ Holographic—a joyfully soundtracked, ever-expanding, creative, heart-centered glittering disco ball of possibility—is now

COMMUNITY SERVICE was an underground queer nightclub that would bring together the queer community through parties, mutual aid, and support to local grassroot efforts. The space was able to be open every weekend for an entire year and it flourished into the premier spot to rave in Richmond.

Founded in 2024 the club lead its programming with a focus on black, trans, and queer talent from all over the United States — even international artists as well. With the club setup in an old auto body shop, the sounds would range from Techno, House, Trance, Club, Jungle, Rap and more. The space also collaborated with local collectives and local artists by opening up the club to showcase their talent.

The ethos of the space was to build and support the underground queer nightlife in Richmond by creating a safer space for everyone to freely express themselves — to demonstrate that it’s possible to create and inspire others through dance music. That it’s possible for you to build on what is already there.

Today, the space no longer exists. COMMUNITY SERVICE is now a party series ran together by locals Lucid and RAFAEL.

ZNORTHY:::::

Znorthy is a DJ who was born and raised in Washington, DC. Growing up they were introduced to electronic music via their older sister who was a raver in DC during the first decade of the 2000s. When Znorthy got older, they used racing video game soundtracks as a gateway to building their own electronic music library. When they got to high school, they became heavily entrenched in the emerging hip-hop scene in DC at the time. Znorthy got some of their first nightlife experiences at warehouse rap shows.

Around this time, they got their first bookings playing hip-hop and future club at various art shows in the DC area. As time progressed their DJ career continued off and on as they lived in New York for college. However, they began to take DJ-ing more seriously once they graduated in 2020 and as they rediscovered their love for dance music. Since then, they’ve joined 140.plus, Fwb_dc, Xunt and GhettoWitchez as a resident dj for those three collectives and can be found playing and organizing parties the DC area.

Burl Faircloth is an underground composer and recording artist from Richmond, Virginia, USA. His musical résumé consists of considerable amounts of local gigging as well as support roles for highly regarded acts such as DJ Aakmael, Com Truise, Catz ‘n Dogz, and Lavern. Throughout his time spent in the local and regional circuit, Faircloth has been able to assert himself as a dependable selector, not bound to any one genre. The same can be said for his original productions. Burl has multiple record releases on house-forward Richmond based Anomalis Radio; and he recently offered up a powerful trance track on D.C. based label Undertone for their UTVA001 compilation which was released this past October. The track charted on Beatport, and was featured on several Beatport playlists including “Best New Trance” and “Weekend Picks 2024: Trance Week 42”.

Born and raised in Richmond, Blaine Teets is an up and coming DJ who has steadily climbed his way up in the local scene.  He found his love for electronic music 20 years ago in college while listening to the Tiesto In Search of Sunrise mixes to get him through his studies.  Since then, his sound has been fueled by artists such as Eric Prydz, Cristoph, Nick Curly, and Nic Fanciulli to name a few. Teets infuses deep, indie, & progressive house with the feel-good energy of groove and funk. Always searching for the freshest sounds, his infectious energy will have the dance floor moving throughout the night.

Joey B is a self taught, Richmond based DJ who has been curating dance floors since 2009. Drawing inspiration from disco, funk, soul, jazz, and improv jam, as well as a deep love for electronic music, he set out to find a way to fuse his favorite parts of all these types of music and performances into one. The result is what he describes as “coalescence - the fusion of all synthesis”. His unique style of mixing and blending creates a journey through sound that not only transcends genres but also keeps you guessing (and dancing) from the past to the present.

2727 W. Broad St. Richmond, VA 23220

Immersed in music from a young age, Suze Ijó’s path inevitably led her into the world of song and dance. The Rotterdam native found herself drawn to dancing and collecting records; a passion that notched up a level after she became a First Floor member.

A communal hub that used to exist in her home city, the space was designed for music lovers to come together to play, listen and talk, as well as collaborate on private events that are influenced by David Mancuso’s infamous Loft parties.

That Loft manifesto feeds into the sounds in her own DJ sets too, whether in the booth or on the waves. From infectious Chicago house to uplifting 80s cuts and warm, soulful grooves; the mood transports you back to the heydays where dance floors were becoming spaces for freedom, self-expression and connection. It’s music to bring people together, music to get you moving, and music to lose yourself in.

Now a globe-trotting DJ, Ijó has brought her unique sound to venues such as Nowadays, Smartbar, and Spot Lite Detroit in North America. In Asia, she has graced the stages of the Wonderfruit Festival in Thailand and Potato Head in Bali. Her music resonates in prestigious European venues like Panorama Bar, De School, Lux Fragíl, Kaiku, and at Dekmantel Festival, where she frequently performs.

Despite a hectic schedule, Ijó’s club sets are marked by intentionality and focus, creating a unique atmosphere for each space and night. To her, “House” is a feeling, an ambience, not just a BPM range. Her approach transforms club nights into collective, bodily, and spiritual experiences crafted by everyone involved.

Ijó is also frequently sought after for her curatorial skills, recently curating stages at Dekmantel Festival (Connects Stage), Wilde Weide Festival, and producing podcasts for United Identities. While her live performances are highly anticipated, Ijó also shares her musical journey through numerous radio shows on NTS, The Lot Radio, and the Dekmantel Podcast series, allowing listeners to experience her distinctive style anytime.
